DCP expert: Kane Lew

Kane Lew, one of the finest artists in the DCP panel of experts. He is an arts graduate from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Arts, Mumbai, and is a commercial photographer. Kane is an experienced photographer and has travelled extensively across Indian geography for several years. He has brilliant photography skills and technical knowledge in all genres of photography with a special interest in wildlife photography. He is known for his innovations and his capability of giving shape to imaginations. He has a great teaching acumen. Apart from his love for art, sculpture and music, he is a skilled trainer, trekker and a biodiversity expert. He is a Masterclass Mentor in the panel and Head of Creative Photography Division, Team DCP. 

Photography experience in Matheran package for 3 days from Matheran itinerary
Day 1
Arrival
  • Pick-up point: Matheran
  • Distance: 5 km from Matheran
  • Duration: 30 min
  • This camp is planned within the core internal hotspots of Matheran. The shuttle mini train from Aman Lodge station (near Dasturi naka) takes you to Matheran station. Walk further after getting down at Matheran station to reach Girivihar Hotel our resort.

  • The camp starts at 10 am on Day 1, Participants are requested to reach Matheran on their own. After an initial formal introduction of the team, our expert will explain about the camp plan and also on the biodiversity of Matheran.
  • After lunch, we will go out for exploring the flora and fauna of the region till it is evening, when we come back to the resort for a tea break and an informal discussion on the photographs clicked.
  • We recommend to wear protective footwear (Gumboot or similar) and carry fully charged torches or head lamps. The trail starts at 6 pm and we shall come back to the resort by 8.30 pm for dinner. Post dinner, we shall have another 2 hours of night trail looking for various species. We will mainly look for Common Vine snake, Common wolf snake, Checkered Keelback, Bamboo Pit Viper, Deccan banded gecko, Brook’s gecko and Tarantulas. We make our best efforts to create an environment suitable for wildlife photography in the wild. However, we cannot guarantee the availability of the species in the wild at any given time.
Day 2
Field Session
  • Pick-up point: Hotel
  • Distance: 5 km from Hotel
  • Duration: 30 min
  • After having breakfast, we will have a long 3 - 4 hour session of macro photography in the forest near the resort. This will involve hand holding on macro photography and tips and tricks of macro photography in the field.  
     
  • We will come back for lunch and then take rest. In the evening we will go out for the 2nd night exploration in search of the amazing herpetofauna that are resident of the forests of Matheran.
Day 3
Departure
  • Pick-up point: Hotel
  • Distance: 5 km from Hotel
  • Duration: 30 min
  • Wake up early morning and walk to the birding spot to reach there before sunrise. Morning tea will be had on the way. After Birding Photography upto about 10.00-10.30 am, outdoor breakfast and walk back to the resort. Rest and check-out after lunch.
